As long as the candle burns – repair is possible
This artwork deals with the famous saying of Rabbi Yisrael Salanter.
It’s told that Rabbi Yisrael returned home late one night. Suddenly he noticed that at his neighbor, the shoemaker, the candle is still lit in the hut where he repairs shoes.
Rabbi Yisrael knocked on his neighbor’s door and asked him: It’s already late, and there is not much left of your candle either, isn’t it time to end the day?
The shoemaker replied, “As long as the candle burns – repair is possible.”
All that night his family heard Rabbi Yisrael walking in his room and mumbling to himself. In the morning he gathered his students and said to them: Hear what an important lesson my dear neighbor taught me: ” As long as the candle burns – repair is possible “
